Drought and Climate Change: Texas, the Bread Basket, California: The Five Minute Response

There are reports out of Texas that eleven water sources will dry up in the next 45 days or so. This is very serious business indeed. The drought in Texas is four years old now. Drought in California is bringing on renewed and sustained threats of wildfires endangering lives and property. The American breadbasket states of the Midwest are under threat of drying out as well. Could it be that in the future, if we do not change our ways, that many hungry Americans will be trying to get across the Canadian border to follow the northward movement of food producing lands? I certainly hope not.

Here's a report that will help you grapple with the details for yourself: http://stateimpact.npr.org/texas/2014/05/06/more-drought-heat-and-water-wars-what-climate-change-already-means-for-texas/

My thoughts and prayers go out to all of those who are currently suffering the ravages of drought and increasingly violent weather (you know the Midwestern states are known for that ... and it will just get increasingly violent according to the science). Be safe and work for positive change in our stewardship of this fragile planet of ours.

And that's the five minute response.
