New Career, New Challenges: When Monday Is Your New Sunday: Dealing with the Day Alone

Ignore this at your own risk!
I have successfully transitioned out of one career and into another. With the change came an adjusted "weekend." Monday is now my second day off. This is strange. I have never had Mondays off regularly, when no holiday is involved.

For those of you who are just coming to grips with this situation, now that I've had a few months to deal with it, I have a little advice.

This is your day off and you need to respect that. This is a day when you need to recharge your batteries and relax. If you do not, you will soon find yourself exhausted each and every day, making adjustment to your new career and schedule exceedingly difficult.

This is not a day to do loads of housework and home repair all by yourself. This is not the day to catch up on office work. This is not the day to squirrel yourself away behind closed doors because you feel strange about everyone else being at work while you are not.

Get out of the house. Get out of the neighborhood. PLAN ahead and do something that will relax you. You really need this when coming to grips with a new job, a new career, and a new weekend. This is not optional. Make sure you actually take the time off and do something for yourself. If you don't, you will soon reap the whirlwind sown by the seeds of your stubbornness.

Good luck.
